liveuserthe whole world05:13
tinwhiskersthe unthinking sheep, huh? But you're one of the enlightened?05:13
liveuserthe world is unfortunately full of unthinking sheep minded humans. They don't have the awareness that what we're seeing with this covid hoax is the NWO making its biggest play for global domination05:14
tinwhiskershttps://xkcd.com/610/05:14
liveuserenlightened is relative. Awareness, that's a different thing completely05:14
tinwhiskersare you saying the virus is a hoax?05:15
liveuserIt's a lie. They're lying to us. They shut down the whole world. How does that NOT register? They've wiped out the middle class after 2.5 months of a 'shutdown'. It's a play for global control. But hey, if you don't have any idea about that, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to convince you of that in a HexChat05:16
tinwhiskersso you don't believe the virus exists?05:17
liveuserTo put it mildly HELL NO!! Nothing more than a cold. That's all it's been. The media (which is essentially the 4th branch of government...i.e. the Propaganda branch) has been hard at work crafting a version of this for everyone. People that believe what they hear on the TV are going to be flat out deceived.05:18

tinwhiskersYou're either a fool or a troll, neither of which are welcome here. 05:19

ryoumayour oxygen concentrator doesnot have a flow rate meter?23:09
ryoumaor you don't trust it?23:09
LjLryouma, it doesn't have a flow rate meter, i think some other similar models i've seen might have one... some kind of narrow glass cylinder? anyway it is a "cheap" chinese concentrator from amazon, the only one i could fortuitously buy because they were all out of stock by the time i decided i definitely wanted one23:12
ryoumayes a clear cylinder with mercury in mine, but mine might be older tech dunno23:14
ryoumaor perhaps it is a hard metal ball dunno23:14
ryoumaanyway clever could include lighting a match.  (i take no responsibility for disasters ensuing.)23:15
ryoumaor bubbling in some clever solution23:16
LjLryouma, someone told me a trick that doesn't involve fire, it involves measuring the weight difference between oxygen and nitrogen or somesuch23:16
LjLryouma, this https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07SZ7KVF6/ is a concentrator sort of similar to mine, but i think on the left, there is a flow meter. https://www.amazon.it/dp/B075RB66SM/ is much more like mine (same brand, but 6L instead of 9L model) and it has no meter, you can simply see that it's flowing because the water bubbles visibly.23:18
ryoumawell yeah we ahve been talking about flow rate, but it would be good to have an oximeter too23:18
LjLdon't be swayed by the fancy LCD, that's really just a timer23:18
LjLryouma, i have an oximeter but i am not sure i trust it and i haven't been able to measure a *clear* difference between when i'm breathing concentrated oxygen and when i'm not23:19
ryoumano i mean oximeter on the flow from the machine.  different technology would be needed.23:19
ryoumaif such exists23:19
LjLoh23:19
ryouma(accurately) 23:20
LjLryouma, the flow rate doesn't measure oxygen, but only the pressure of whatever gas it's emitting?23:20
LjLthe flow rate meter23:20
ryoumai presume so.  you rely on the instruction manual to tell you what the proportion of oxygen is.  and yo rely on alarms totell you when it is too low.23:20
ryoumathe oxygen concetration is too low*23:21
ryoumawhich, who knows if that is direct or indirect23:21
ryoumae.g. if the zeolite or whatever it is is being compressed etc.23:21
LjLryouma, with mine, it's supposed to give a specific proportion of oxygen depending on the amount of L you select... and i assume with yours you just rotate something until the mercury meter gives you the L you wanted? while with mine, i guess there's some sort of internal control since i directly rotate the wheel to a given amount of L23:22
ryoumais there any difference there?  other than that there is a meter and in the other you are using markings?23:23
ryouma(and perhaps trusting more)23:23
LjLi don't know23:23
LjLryouma, anyway from just an intuitive point of view, if i set it to 9L, there's definitely an intense flow of air into my nose. so from something not medical grade, i wasn't expecting much more information than that. but in reality it could be just compressed air for all i know. unless my pulse oximeter makes my blood quickly reach 99% (which it doesn't)...23:24
withorwithouthttps://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2020/05/21/there-may-be-a-unique-coronavirus-immune-response pretty nice post from Derek, as usual23:30
withorwithoutleaving room for new potential treatments, indeed, given that the response seems to be unique23:32
withorwithoutwow, so hydroxychloroquine seems to be doing more harm indeed, now with this big study with thousands of patients23:37
BrainstormUpdates for West Virginia, US: +89 cases (now 1705), +1 deaths (now 72) since 6 hours ago — California, US: +989 cases (now 90107), +34 deaths (now 3683) since 49 minutes ago — US: +1257 cases (now 1.6 million), +41 deaths (now 97533) since 34 minutes ago — Washington, US: +126 cases (now 20175), +2 deaths (now 1071) since 49 minutes ago23:38
ecksI would be surprised if a portable concentrator can do 6L/min of >90% oxygen23:42
eckslet alone 9 L/min23:42
ryoumawhat does portale mean in that context?23:45
ecksthe kind that COPD patients can have at home23:46
LjLttl-, it says towards the bottom, in the changing message, "... who suffer from ... the Covid-19 pandamic", that looks bad, pandEmic23:48
ecksthe one LjL linked seems to do 6 L/min at 30%, and normal minute ventilation is around 6 L/min, so if you're breathing at a normal rate and getting 100% of the air via the concentrator, that'd be a FiO2 of 0.30 (compared to room air at FiO2 of 0.21)23:48
nixonixshould we order pulse oxymeters? do those cheap gadget work, and show if we are low on oxygen23:48
LjLnixonix, they are no longer very cheap, there is that23:49
LjLnixonix, i have one, it was "expensive" at €32 because it records for 12 hours and sends to the computer over USB, otherwise they used to start at €12 or so, €20 for one that showed a graph typically23:49
LjLnow they are €40 to €60 or so although they are slowly going down again and you start seeing some for less than €30, although they are the ones that used to be more like €1223:50
nixonixseing €40 or so, with typical 4.5 stars from prob mostly fake reviews (and no idea if they really show what they should. do they?23:51
LjLnixonix, as to whether they "work" i am not sure, i'd actually like to have a second one to see how reasonable the readings from the first are, but i waited until the prices skyrocketed and now i'll just wait. with mine, sometimes i'm up to 98%, sometimes it goes as low as 92%, but i don't know whether that's me or the oxymeter... it never goes to 99% anymore though, while it used to23:51
eckspulse oxymeters work reasonably well in most situations23:52
nixonixany brands to recommend and avoid?23:52
LjLnixonix, well the most basic ones show two main things, the heartrate and the saturation. the basics are there. there are two additional bits of information that some show: perfusion index (PI), a somewhat arbitrary number i think, but it gives you an idea of how much bloodflow you're actually having to your finger, which is of interest because the lower that is, the less accurate the saturation reading risks being23:52
withorwithouthttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/22/health/Coronavirus-touching-surfaces.html as they said, this has been going on for weeks/months, but still relevant23:53
BrainstormUpdates for Gabon: +161 cases (now 1728) since a day ago — Uganda: +15 cases (now 175) since 18 hours ago — Kentucky, US: +140 cases (now 8426), +5 deaths (now 391) since a day ago — US: +141 cases (now 1.6 million), +5 deaths (now 97538) since 19 minutes ago23:53
LjLnixonix, the other one is a plethysmograph, a usually pretty tiny graph, but you can get some information from it, i find it useful... you can easily see whether the heartrate reading is correct or being influenced by your movements (they are very sensitive to movements), and whether it's "adjusting" to a new amount of flow, so you can discard what you're reading until the graph is okay again. if you have an expert eye you can also tell other things from 23:54
LjLthe shape of the graph, but obviously, it's not an ECG23:54
BrainstormNew from r/WorldNews Live* at 21:51 UTC: /u/slakmehl: Nate Silver su Twitter: "US daily numbers via @COVID19Tracking Newly reported deaths Today: 1,261 Yesterday: 1,423 One week ago (5/15): 1,478 Newly reported cases T: 24K Y: 25K 5/15: 24K Newly reported tests T: 344K Y: 397K 5/15: 363K Positive test rate T: 7% Y: 6% 5/15: 7%" → https://is.gd/9vNYMk23:55
LjLnixonix, the one i have is Contec, but you'll find it under a number of reselling brands. my indian friend worked for a medical company and he knew about Contec, so there is that, but again i can't confirm whether the readings are solid. if you have Windows, or are willing to see what you can do with WINE, there is software to see things in realtime, when you're connected to USB, in a much more detailed way than on the screen of the thing itself. if you 23:56
LjLhave Linux there is nothing for this realtime stuff, but a program called OSCAR (fork of SleepyHeads) will let you import a night's worth of recorded data23:56
ryoumamy oxygen concentrator is pretty normal i think and it does a least 87 to at least 923:57
ryouma(from the owner's manual which i just checked)23:58
ryouma(from an online version of it)23:58
ecks9 L/min at what concentration?23:58
LjLryouma, your concentrator is medical grade. mine, as anything that doesn't require a prescription, is sold as a "wellbeing" device for generally healthy people23:58
LjLnixonix, this is a recording of my heartrate-saturation while i was sleeping using the device https://framapic.org/916hw5fxbGv6/UBXzoZQnEJDw.png23:59
ryoumaLjL: the plethysmograph shows adjusting to a new flow?  the oximeter has to adjust to something?23:59
ryoumaLjL: i was responding to an earlier comment from non-you23:59
LjLnixonix, i can confirm that heartrate did have that spike, since i also have a Bip that measures my heartrate from the wrist. whether there was such a dip is saturation, well, i'd like to know how real it is, for sure23:59
