LatrinaHello folks. Does anyone run devuan on a rpi4b?20:22
LatrinaWhenever I try to boot the devuan_beowulf_3.1.0_arm64_rpi4.img image I get a PCI reset error20:23
Latrinathis is the only distro that has ever given me this error20:23
LatrinaI tried multiple rpi4s, same issue.20:23
TenkawaLatrina: where did you get the image?20:32
Tenkawawhich source? (have a few different ones now)20:33
Latrinahey Tenkawa. Got it from here https://arm-files.devuan.org/20:33
Tenkawaok.. just a sec20:34
Tenkawagoing to copy it to one of my test units20:34
Latrinathanks20:35
Latrinathis guy said it is working for him https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=30209#p3020920:36
Latrinabut then how come none of my 5 rpi4b's like it?20:36
Tenkawahow did you copy it to media?20:38
Tenkawayou unzipped it first then dd 'it right?20:39
Latrinaexactly20:41
Tenkawawhat power are you feeding the pi 4 with?20:41
Latrinadon't know but its the original PSU20:43
Tenkawaok20:43
Tenkawathis is the one you are trying to install right?20:43
Tenkawahttps://arm-files.devuan.org/devuan_beowulf_3.1.0_arm64_rpi4.img.zip20:44
Latrinayes20:44
Tenkawaok20:44
Tenkawaoh… does it start to console boot then stop outputting to screen?20:45
LatrinaIt dies before booting the kernel20:47
LatrinaPCI reset is the last message before start4l something20:48
Tenkawaok .. that could be the same problem do you use video or uart?20:48
LatrinaI use uart20:50
Latrina:(20:50
Latrinadoes it work for you though?20:50
Tenkawado you have enable_uart=1 set in config.txt? and  possibly /etc/inittab will need a getty line enabled20:51
Tenkawastill downloading20:51
Tenkawaok just finished.. let me put it on the card20:52
Tenkawauart requires settings to be enabled btw20:52
LatrinaTenkawa, yes I do have  enable_uart=1, else it wouldn't work20:53
Latrinaas for /etc/inittab, that is likely not the issue since not even the kernel is booted20:53
Tenkawawell… technically it will work.. you just won't see the console20:53
Latrinayeah but I see the console20:53
Latrinathat is what I meant :)20:54
Tenkawano.. you see the pre-boot20:54
Tenkawathe kernel isnt finishing20:54
Tenkawalet me grab my uart cable so I can emulate this the same way20:55
Tenkawadd'ing now20:56
Latrinathanks for the help20:57
Tenkawanp… ok about to plug it up20:59
Latrinatoes crossed it doesn't work :P21:05
Tenkawa[ ok ] Starting OpenBSD Secure Shell server: sshd.21:05
Latrina0_021:05
Latrinait booted ?21:05
Tenkawayeah21:06
TenkawaI didnt fill out the cred txt so it didnt populate net params and userid stuff21:07
Tenkawabut it got to  that point21:07
Tenkawa Expanding root filesystem ...21:07

Tenkawaetc21:07
LatrinaI dont know what to say21:08
LatrinaI guess I am glad it worked for you21:08
Latrinais it a rpi 4b?21:08
Tenkawayep21:09
Tenkawa Machine model: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.121:09
Tenkawaredoing the boot again with the creds so I can get a full boot21:10
Latrinaso what could the issue be then?21:11
Latrinathis is very odd21:11
Latrinaand this is the only distro I have this issue with21:11
Latrinamight it be the bootloader version?21:11
Tenkawaany clue how old your eeprom is?21:12
TenkawaI tell people to try to keep them up to date21:13
Latrinalet me see21:14
Latrinahow can I see that?21:16
Tenkawaif we ported the pkg (I can't remember if we put it in the images or not..) it would be listed if you run sudo rpi-eeprom-update21:17
Latrina  VL805_FW: Using bootloader EEPROM21:20
Latrina     VL805: up to date21:20
Latrina   CURRENT: 000138a121:20
Latrina    LATEST: 000138a21:20
Tenkawaneed the other section21:21
Tenkawathats the vl.. need the eeprom section21:21
Latrina   CURRENT: Thu 29 Apr 16:11:25 UTC 2021 (1619712685)21:21
Latrina    LATEST: Thu 29 Apr 16:11:25 UTC 2021 (1619712685)21:21
Tenkawathats a bit older...21:21
Tenkawajuly 6 is current stable21:22
Tenkawabut it shouldnt cause that21:23
LatrinaI can update it21:27
Latrinaand give it another try21:27
LatrinaI can't think of anything else outside of that21:28
Tenkawaok.. it gets to random stages here too and hangs21:34
Latrinalike where?21:38
Latrinayou certainly get to boot it at least21:39
LatrinaI don't21:39
Tenkawaalways past root mount and into init 2 stage21:42
c0rneliusWhat kernel revision is that img running?21:54
Tenkawals -l /ext/lib/modules/21:59
Tenkawatotal 421:59
Tenkawadrwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Feb 28 11:40 5.10.17-v821:59
Tenkawathat21:59
c0rneliusWell thats pretty.22:00
c0rneliusold22:00
Tenkawadont ask me..22:01
TenkawaI didnt build it22:01
TenkawaI run 5.13 on everything22:01
c0rneliusLatrina: try one of these if you will - https://github.com/pyavitz/rpi-img-builder/releases/tag/images22:02
Tenkawac0rnelius: yeah I was about to build a new image too22:02
c0rneliusThey are built using the same builder that made that img.22:02
Latrinac0rnelius, okay man, will give it a try shortly. Thanks22:02
Latrinadownloading it now22:04
Tenkawabuilding a devel one to test here too22:05
Tenkawawith some trace22:05
Tenkawac0rnelius: going to use the cm4 to build it instead of the n2+… might be a bit cleaner22:06
c0rneliusI don't think it really matter where you build it, Tenkawa.22:07
Tenkawayeah it "shouldn't" but this is broadcom so who knows lol22:08
c0rneliusMore important that the version of GCC matches the img more than anything.22:08
c0rneliustrue enough22:09
Tenkawajust waiting to see how many days it will take the foundation to fix the latest dtb patch22:09
Tenkawait breaks anything that uses bcm283522:09
c0rneliusPretty sure some of that got backported to 5.10 LTS.22:10
Tenkawano.. the mainline kernel fixes are what broke everything22:11
Tenkawanow there is a dtb disconnect22:11
c0rneliusYes. But what I am saying is, its now across revs. Its not just 5.13 and 5.14.22:11
Tenkawathe tree disconnects and the branch duplicates22:12
c0rneliusthey moved stuff from dts to dtsi and whatnots22:12
c0rneliusThe current patching from mainline doesn't take that into account so ur getting dups22:12
Tenkawayes but the problem there is until  they fix it in foundation… its going to break our builds22:12
Tenkawasince we have to have both22:13
c0rneliusWell. I blame them :)22:13
Tenkawaand mainline is still missing a fair amount of code22:13
c0rneliusIts a wait and see for us.22:13
c0rneliusI was reading what Robin said about mainline uboot for the n2 (same error on c4) and that the problem in not so many words is that it is fundamentally broken. Which sounds to me like that little kernel patch which reverts nomap changes made in 5.10 is probs gonna be the only fix for a whiles.22:24
c0rneliusAnd I confirmed today that the patch also fixes the Reserved memory error on the C4. Although that board doesn't lock up because of it.22:26
Tenkawainteresting..22:29
Tenkawamore /etc/devuan_version ; uname -a22:39
Tenkawachimaera/ceres22:39
TenkawaLinux rpi4-3 5.13.4-tenkawa-v8 #1 SMP Mon Jul 26 16:09:06 EDT 2021 aarch64 GNU/Linux22:39
Tenkawamy new image works on rpi422:40
Latrinac0rnelius, same problem with latest build I am afraid. Logs here https://pastebin.com/A3VHR56V23:20
Latrinanevermind, I have a ssh prompt23:21
Latrina:S23:21
Latrinathough I ccant see the boot process?23:21
c0rneliusThats what I was gonna ask23:21
c0rneliusI don't have a uart cable so I can't test that23:21
LatrinaI am in lol23:22
Latrinathat's utterly emberassing23:22
LatrinaI am so happy it works23:22
c0rneliusAfter ur setup, reboot and let me know if uart works.23:22
Latrinayup23:22
c0rneliusI think its got something to do with firstboot, but since I can't test it myself I'm not sure how to resolve the issue.23:23
Latrinaoh uart is disabled in config.txt23:23
LatrinaI see23:23
Latrinayeah uart works fine. I just needed to enable it23:25
c0rneliuswell thats good to know23:26
Latrinaactually uart hangs at [ ok ] Starting OpenBSD Secure Shell server: sshd.23:27
LatrinaI sense this could be the uart to mini-uart mapping thing with getty23:28
LatrinaI will figure it out later23:28
Tenkawayou might still need to edit inittab for that23:28
TenkawaI run mine headless so I just ssh in23:29
Tenkawaits running nicely now23:29
c0rneliusI won't be able to help there. I don't have the equipment so no way for me to test.23:29
Tenkawacan't decide which argon unit to use now though23:29
Tenkawamight just keep this on my 4gb and leave the m.2 debian on the 8gb unit23:31
Tenkawa(still got 4 more after that lol)23:31
Latrinano worries c0rnelius . You helped enough :)23:31
Latrinabtw, what is the default rc service for the rpi4 image?23:43
LatrinaOpenRC clearly isn't :/23:43
Latrinanevermind23:45
Latrinaweird most of the runit commands are missing :S23:54
c0rneliusBy default it doesn't use runit23:56
c0rneliussysvinit23:56
Latrinaoh cool23:56
Latrinacan it be replaced with OpenRC?23:56
c0rneliusIf its available in packaging I would assume it could, I've never personally tried. Although some pi specific inits would need to be ported over I would assume?23:58
Latrinano clue23:59
LatrinaI never used devuan before to be honest23:59
