Kitty | hello | 17:45 |

UsL | hello, Kitty | 18:02 |
Kitty | I am interested in running devuan on a Nanopi R4s | 18:03 |
UsL | I'll leave you in the capable hands of c0rnelius then.. : ) | 18:04 |
UsL | ask away and I'm sure someone will get back to you, Kitty. Be patient. Slow and steady. | 18:05 |
c0rnelius | Unfortunately, I don't own one. So I have never done any kernel development on it. | 18:06 |
UsL | how different is it compared to rpi4? | 18:09 |
UsL | I'm interested in pi's as well. Though I haven't bought one yet. | 18:09 |
c0rnelius | Completely SoC | 18:09 |
c0rnelius | Its an RK3399 which I do own, but not that board. So the patching I'm sure would be a lil diff and I don't know what the current state of u-boot is on it. | 18:11 |
Kitty | I did try a rather naive approach of installing armbian, and then trying to migrate to devuan via apt-get install sysvinit | 18:13 |
Kitty | that made a nice brick | 18:13 |
UsL | a nano small brick. | 18:14 |
c0rnelius | Armbian does kernels a bit diff then I do. Although I think they are trying to change that. But currently I believe the kernel packages are split into three packages. kernel, dtb and headers. The also create a u-boot package? Which means the u-boot binaries should be under /usr/lib/u-boot*? somewhere. | 18:17 |
c0rnelius | If you are able to fetch those I could in theory try making an img? | 18:17 |
c0rnelius | I probs don't need the u-boot package. | 18:18 |
c0rnelius | Pretty sure its in the latest mainline | 18:18 |
c0rnelius | I could try throwing one together by going through all the patching related to it, but that would be a lot of work :) | 18:20 |
steev | looks fairly standard | 18:22 |
steev | r4s support is in mainline u-boot, it uses atf | 18:22 |
steev | and r4s is in 5.14 at least, not looked through the dtb to see just how much support is there | 18:23 |
Kitty | Linux Wilson 5.10.60-rockchip64 #21.08.1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 25 18:56:55 UTC 2021 aarch64 GNU/Linux | 18:25 |
Kitty | is what armbian ships with | 18:25 |
steev | yeah, that's their 5.10 kernel | 18:25 |
steev | at some point, i need to get around to mine | 18:25 |
Kitty | thanks all, I'm done for the day, back tomorrow. | 18:57 |
gnarface | isn't there a rp4 test image on arm-files.devuan.org though? | 20:22 |
gnarface | i think there's 2 actually, one for beowulf and one for chimaera | 20:22 |
c0rnelius | I don't see how thats gonna boot a NanoPi R4S | 20:23 |
gnarface | oh, nanopi, my bad | 20:23 |
c0rnelius | Not the same vendor or SoC :) | 20:24 |
gnarface | i just woke up | 20:24 |
gnarface | sorry | 20:24 |
gnarface | saw r4 and it just auto-filled to rp4 | 20:24 |
c0rnelius | I think tux was working on the rk3328 equivalent of that board, but I haven't seen him in ages. | 20:24 |
