DRWhiteHi folks.07:56
DRWhiteTrying to install devuan on an ARM device, but how the hell do I install it?07:56
rktayou download the image and write it to the sd card?08:02
DRWhiteBut that doesn't let me install it08:02
DRWhiteI am trying to install it onto an ARM device.08:03
rktaWhat is your device?08:04
DRWhiteG50 5G08:04
rktathe phone?08:04
DRWhiteor an E508:05
rktaI don't think that this a supported device08:06
DRWhiteI didn't ask that08:06
DRWhiteI'll wait fo rsomeone that will actually read what I'm asking08:06
gnarfaceit's not clear what you're asking08:46
gnarfaceif you're looking for an "installer" type image, that's not how the supported arm images work08:47
gnarfacethey're all basically just pre-installed disk images you write to bootable media08:47
gnarfaceif you know that already, and your device isn't supported, you're asking basically how to build a custom kernel and u-boot for it, which probably nobody here can guess for you (probably would require some kernel and u-boot patch writing)08:48
gnarfaceyou might be able to infer most of the build parts from other documentation08:49
gnarfacethat stuff isn't particularly distro specific08:49
gnarfacehttp://arm-files.devuan.org/README.txt have you read this at least?08:49
gnarfaceif it is at least armel, armhf, or arm64 compatible so you can use the devuan repos to debootstrap a rootfs, you should only have to build a usable kernel and u-boot for it08:51
gnarfacenote that actually getting the hardware to boot that may not be possible without proprietary knowledge from the vendor unless they at least let you boot from microSD somehow08:52
gnarfacethe reason why it matters whether it's "supported" hardware or not is because every one of these images had to be custom-built for a particular device, that's just a limitation of the ARM architecture in general; there's no BIOS08:54
c0rneliusa G50 5G as in the Moto phone? get real :) come on.08:55
gnarfacei'm not familiar with the device so i don't even know what cpu it has08:55
gnarfaceor what class of cpus its in08:55
c0rneliusdoesn't matter its a phone.08:55
c0rneliuseven if you could some how get devuan running on it. it would be kind of useless.08:56
gnarfacewell there's linux phone distros now, one is even based on devuan08:57
gnarfacethey work on some phones, even for phone stuff... i just can't say whether that phone is one of them08:57
gnarfacehmmm... let's see here....08:59
gnarfacehttps://leste.maemo.org/Category:Device08:59
gnarfacethere motorola phones listed but doesn't look like that one is09:00
gnarfacethree*09:00
gnarfacehttps://maemo-leste.github.io/09:00
gnarfacestill, maybe that's a good place to look for documentation first if you want to put devuan on a phone09:00
gnarfaceat least their irc channel should have a more relevant knowledge base about it09:01
c0rneliuswould need to be able to unluck the bootloader for starters.09:01
c0rneliusand yeah I know older moto phones can do this, but since the sell to Lenovo I don't know?09:01
c0rneliusbut still... seems like a pointless venture. Install Lineage OS and call it a day.09:03
gnarfacei assume the G50 is not the same as the G (2014) ?09:03
c0rneliusnot sure to be honest. I haven't had a Moto sense the last Moto X and before the company was sold.09:04
gnarfaceubuntu touch lists a lot more (partially) supported phones, including two motorola phones not listed by maemo-leste, but nothing called the E5 or G50 specifically09:04
onefangMy post Lenovo Moto Z can apparently be unlocked.  Something that's on my TODO list.09:05
c0rneliusthe G50 5G is a 2021 release09:05
gnarfacethe UT support synopsis for the G infers they have motorola-specific device unlock info somewhere in the website but doesn't link to it directly09:06
c0rneliusyep thats how I unlocked my old motos. the web site.09:06
onefangI don't think DRWhite is paying attention any more.09:06
c0rneliusall the patents and stuff were kept by google after the sell of Motorola anyway. kind of why I lost interest.09:08
