calamariI'd like to try Devuan Beowulf, but I haven't been able to figure out how to download it. Is it available? Reason: I built a new system, figured it was my chance to break away from Ubuntu, and installed Devuan ASCII, but I hit a snag: Intel I219-V ethernet is not supported (Ubuntu 16.04 has the same problem). Tried out Ubuntu 18.04 and it worked there, so I'm hopeful that a new enough kernel is in Beowulf too.00:32
furrywolfyou can install newer kernels on ascii, if all you need is a newer kernel.00:33
furrywolfdeb http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged ascii-backports main00:34
calamarioops, I assumed it gave the latest by default. thanks!00:34
furrywolfno, Devuan, like debian, ships well-tested versions by default.  This means things are often a bit older, but known to work, and work with the included versions of other things.00:35
calamariyeah you're right00:36
calamariI need to put my Debian mindset back on00:36
furrywolflooks like the ascii-backports one is 4.9...  not bleeding edge, but newer than the default.00:37
furrywolfbbl00:38
calamariIs there is a recommended way to install the proprietary nVidia drivers on Devuan? (on Ubuntu it was recommended to use the graphics-drivers ppa)00:38
calamarithanks again00:38
calamaricya00:38
furrywolfprobably, but as I don't use them, I don't know.00:39
calamarino problem, it's a question for anyone, thanks again :)00:39
gnarfacecalamari: they're in the repo in non-free00:39
gnarfacecalamari: check backports if you need a newer version00:39
gnarfacecalamari: oh, you said it was beowulf... i don't think there is backports for beowulf, but i could be wrong00:40
DonkeyHotei"..., and installed Devuan ASCII,..."00:40
calamarino I have ASCII, I just made a bad assumption about it00:41
calamariI'll stick with ASCII00:41
calamaritrying it! :D00:48
KatolaZfurrywolf: ascii-backports has 4.1701:00
KatolaZand will get newer kernels until beowulf will freeze, I guess01:01
KatolaZ(well, buster, indeed)01:01
furrywolfodd, I checked packages. and the metapackage pointed to 4.905:37
KatolaZfurrywolf: https://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/d1pkgweb-query?search=linux-image&release=ascii10:23
xrogaanI need a software to monitor specific application network usage.10:26
xrogaanI guess I need to use wireshark? But I'd love to see something less convoluted.10:26
gnarfacexrogaan: try jnettop or tcpdump maybe?10:50
xrogaanhow do you monitor an application with jnettop?10:53
gnarfacei'm not sure10:54
xrogaanI want to know what a specific application does with the network.10:57
gnarfacenetstat and fuser maybe?10:58
xrogaanno, you can know that with lsof11:01
xrogaanI want to know *what* it does, not if a socket is open.11:01
gnarfacei guess to actually read packet contents i only know of wireshark and tcpdump11:03
gnarfaceand they're both pretty convoluted11:03
xrogaanwell I guess netstat + grep software name + tcpdump11:17
xrogaanI was hoping a software could be used as a sniffing layer though.11:18
gnarfacehmmm11:56
gnarfacewhat about snort?11:56
gnarfaceit's for monitoring, not really inspection, but maybe it can do inspection for logging purposes11:56
gnarfacejust guessing11:56
gnarfaceit might be more focused on ports and ip addresses than processes though11:57
Centurion_DanUpgrade to firefox-esr breaks audio... they dropped alsa support in firefox-esr in v62...11:59
Centurion_DanI'm rather pissed about that...11:59
telst4ryeah12:02
gnarfacei think they dropped it in v60 actually12:03
telst4rpulseaudio will become obsolete anyway as soon as systemd implements it :P12:03
Centurion_Danmight be the last straw... I'm starting to get other browsers...12:04
Centurion_Dans/get/test/12:04
telst4rif only uzbl could run ff plugins.. :)12:05
furrymcgeehell ya love uzbl12:06
xrogaangnarface: i'll check12:11
xrogaanmy concern is with this: http://dpaste.com/1J48R8T12:11
xrogaankeepassxc-proxy connects to google and amazon12:12
xrogaanthat's ridiculous12:12
gnarfacewhat is that even?12:13
gnarfaceoh, password management...12:14
gnarfacehmmm12:14
telst4rThat sounds suspicious.12:14
gnarfacewell dpaste connected to amazon just now too12:14
gnarfacejust fyi12:14
Hurgotronxrogaan: probably related... https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc-browser/issues/10012:23
Hurgotronshit keeps getting too complicated.12:23
xrogaani'm using firefox though12:24
HurgotronThe bug is about Firefox?12:25
Hurgotronsee the last four or so comments.12:26
xrogaanoh, right. Thanks. Trying to figure out snort right now :p12:33
xrogaanfixed in 61. Still running esr 60. :/12:34
BeerbelottHello12:38
BeerbelottI spot an inconsistency in Devuan packages repositories merged from Debian's12:38
Beerbelotthttp://packages.devuan.org/merged/dists/ascii-security/main/binary-amd64/Packages shows firefox-esr-l10n-en-gb w/ version 52.9.0esr-1~deb9u112:39
BeerbelottWhile http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged/dists/ascii-security/main/binary-amd64/Packages.xz shows proper 60.2.0esr-1~deb9u212:39
Beerbelotthttps://packages.debian.org/stretch/firefox-esr-l10n-en-gb12:39
BeerbelottShall `pkgmaster` be preferred over `packages`?12:40
KatolaZBeerbelott: yes12:42
KatolaZsince ascii12:42
KatolaZplease read the release notes12:42
KatolaZyou should use deb.devuan.org12:42
KatolaZwhich is in fact a bunch of mirrors12:42
BeerbelottKatolaZ: Noted, thx! Why isn't `packages` one of the mirrors? Will that be decommissioned?13:16
KatolaZyes Beerbelott, it will be decommissioned13:27
xrogaansnort is fascinating.13:32
xrogaanhuge pool of ridiculousness. The ruleset is deprecated by default, and you need to register to get a working software.13:33
BeerbelottKatolaZ: K thx13:58
KatolaZnp13:58
FlibberTGibbetKatolaZ: is it still good to use (for example) gb.deb.devuan.org?14:14
FlibberTGibbetOr should I omit the country prefix?14:14
KatolaZyou can use the country prefix14:15
FlibberTGibbetthanks KatolaZ14:15
KatolaZbut you will still hit the same pool of mirrors14:15
KatolaZwe are working on that actually14:15
KatolaZto have different pools for different continents at least14:15
FlibberTGibbetthat sounds good14:16
FlibberTGibbetmore resilient too, i guess14:16
KatolaZyep14:20
