amxkpanyone have any experience with evilwm? I am simply trying to change the default terminal from xterm to stterm (st) in devuan02:43
amxkpman evilwm says you can create a file that is supposed to overwrite any default settings, but it isn't working?02:43
GoatAvengeramxkp, from the man page, it looks like you'd just do $HOME/.evilwmrc with a line in that file reading (term stterm)02:52
GoatAvengeryou could check permissions of your config file, make sure everything is solid there..02:52
GoatAvengeror, find the script that launches evilwm and put what needs to be put there..02:53
amxkpmy goodness, I was interpreting the /.evil-wmrc literally...02:53
amxkpthat was one of my problems was I don't seem to have a .xinitrc file to launch any desktop environment02:55
amxkpi created one and it didn't seem to have any effect02:55
amxkpthanks anyways goat02:55
amxkpI have to restart X. i'll tell you how it goes!02:58
amxkpit worked perfectly. I was putting .evil-wmrc instead of .evilwmrc. thanks goat03:04
GoatAvengeramxkp, heh, np, glad it was an easy fix..03:07
* GoatAvenger gets a bit curious to try out evilwm, now..03:08
cws6969I clicked on the synaptic icon, but it didn't start synaptic. The system is unresponsive. Can only restart the system10:54
cws6969Is it lack of dependency?10:55
gnarfaceshouldn't be, if you used stable and followed the rules10:55
gnarfacemore likely a configuration issue, perhaps network or sources10:55
cws6969At the command line  “ sudo synaptic“ isok10:56
gnarfaceoh, could be a permission problem then perhaps10:56
gnarfacemaybe that could be caused by a missing package after all10:57
gnarfacedid you omit dbus or something?10:57
gnarfaceare you using a graphical login?10:58
gnarfacetwo things i could think of are using the wrong permissions backend for a graphical login, or not launching xorg suid root without it (something not all graphics drivers can even do)10:59
cws6969yes graphical login  “startx“10:59
gnarfacesince the previous release, the drivers that don't need to launch with suid root xorg binary, won't10:59
gnarfaceso that means xorg in that case would be running as your user10:59
gnarfacewhich means it wouldn't be able to call synaptic as root without gksudo or something like that11:00
gnarfaceit isn't very secure, you're better off using the terminal honestly11:00
gnarfacebut i bet it is simple to fix too11:00
gnarfacebut yea maybe adding a package might possibly work, but i seem to remember gksudo got pulled, i'm not sure what you'd use instead11:02
gnarfaceyou could alternately still probably launch it suid root but there might be more steps to it than that11:03
cws6969yes , i can't find gksudo11:03
gnarfaceand that wouldn't fix the security issue11:03
cws6969Well, in the future I can only open synaptic on the command line and use "sudo synaptic"11:09
