Guest24Hello! I'm planning on migrating from Gentoo. Any caveats/newbie boilerplate I should be aware of?00:26
critrlearn apt package manager?00:43
golinuxGuest24 Read the release notes and the "install" and "packages" pages if the website00:44
golinuxif > of00:44
golinuxAny questions, ask here . . .00:45
Guest24Sounds good, thanks.01:28
xrogaanwhat do you mean by "migrating"? So long you install from scratch, I don't see an issue.01:33
ShorTieya, there is no migrating, only a install over like01:47
ShorTiethe live cd does a good job of installing, imho01:48
Guest24I meant migrating as in "I use Gentoo right now but I'm going to switch."02:02
Guest24I have bought a new 1TB SSD that I wish to install it on so it's not going to be a *huge* issue.02:02
Guest24I was deciding between Devuan and Slackware.02:02
Guest24s/and/or02:03
blockheadmy first ever distro was gentoo (long story) - so based on my experience: installing devuan will be so quick and easy by comparison02:17
Guest24my first was Slackware back in the day. I've used a lot of different distributions. I tend towards Slackware but honestly I'm getting old and lazy I guess. :)02:24
user____WARNING: applying the latest updates (don't know which exactly) on Beowulf Xfce destroys the desktop icon ordering, must be redone by hand afterwards. Take a screenshot before updating ... I bulk updated and got the desktop turned into dogfood.09:48
user282069how can i disable mouse acceleration in chimaera?09:53
user282069mate-desktop does not maintain its keyboard layout. with multiple keyboard layouts, it seems to randomly switch around regardless of whatever preferences are checked.09:57
Guest88hi all. im try to install it from arch. i want to bootstrap it  from archlinux. why i didnt find an 'apt-static' package into repo. So im kindly asking for that someone  please PUT a statically linked 'apt' package link to main install page that EXPERTS can easily bootstrap from other distros.13:43
Guest88of course if devuan support such type installation13:43
sadoon_albader[mI thought that was done using debootstrap?13:47
sadoon_albader[mIt's a much easier method13:47
Guest88so thanks ,im going to try it.13:48
sadoon_albader[mNo problem, good luck!13:49
user____So, anyone else lose their icon settings on the desktop with xfce4 and the recent updates?14:20
user____*lost14:22
UsLonly icons I have is removable media.14:36
user____The icons don't disappear, they reappear "bunched", ordering and placement lost.15:59
user____And I don't know which package updated exactly does this.15:59
user____Because I bulk updated all (40 or so items)15:59
golinuxThe icons got screwed up in chimaera16:46
user____Do you know which package update did it?16:55
user____golinux: ?16:55
Tenkawabb|hcb: hey.. just got back from the multi day appts and yard maint.. was anything figured out on that apt problem we discovered?16:56
brocashelmxfce is also a bit more bloated as of 4.16. not a devuan problem, but a lot of changes upstream since then17:00
user____Eww17:01
brocashelmi think i did have that problem with the desktop icons when i upgraded to chimaera/ceres last year. luckily, they were very few icons and i just sorted them manually again17:01
golinuxIt is fixed is the default theme.  Paths changed17:16
golinuxhttps://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=1508517:17
golinuxThat explains the changes17:17
golinuxThe deepsea icons are linked correctly.  Bets are off for any other themes.17:18
golinuxuser____: ^^^17:18
user____Is that released by gnome.org </sncr>17:21
user____golinux: my error was jumbled icon position, not missing icons17:21
user____As to theme, I use the default one.17:22
user____Daft question: I have pulseaudio deinstalled yet ~/config/pulse shows recent (today) activity17:28
user____https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xfce#Desktop_icons_rearrange_themselves icon arrangement related17:45
user____In general, as usual, arch docs are excellent.17:54
bb|hcbTenkawa: https://bugs.devuan.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=625 are you refering to this one?19:14
Tenkawayeah.. reading the followup now19:16
Tenkawastill doesn't explain why that only occured chimaera forward19:19
Tenkawabut as long as the patch works thats good19:21
Tenkawaafk.. need to go run outside and put up yard stuff.19:22
bb|hcbI can explain - until Debial buster they were merged19:22
Tenkawabb|hcb: ah19:23
bb|hcbWith Debian bullseye arch:all got separated and needed additional config for the repos19:23
bb|hcbThank you for reporting this :)19:23
Tenkawaso they broke out the repo config itself19:23
Tenkawathats kind of potentially messy19:24
bb|hcbNot exactly, they didn't break it, but made all to be separate to avoid duplication across different arches19:24
Tenkawanot "break" broke out is a term meaning seperated19:24
bb|hcbOops, sorry, I am skipping words :)19:25
Tenkawanod.. ok I'll be back.. need to go do these chores real quick.19:26
AfdalSo uh23:24
AfdalYou guise aren't going to abandon 32-bit soon like certain other distro bandwagoners, are you?23:25
chozorho*shrug*23:31
chozorho~~who cares~~23:31
Tenkawachozorho: many care23:54
Tenkawathere is still quite a bit of 32 bit in use23:54
Tenkawaand will be for some time23:55
