sabas3dghjoerg, very good link. thanks for your help00:00
joergyw :-)00:00
joergit's the chanlog, it comes with a very powerful search feature too00:01
sabas3dghjoerg, any information on available runlevel(S) itself? which one is which?00:40
gnarfacesabas3dgh: https://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts this might help you out00:43
gnarfacesabas3dgh: as i recall, debian was not like redhat with regards to runlevel designations; everything defaults to #2 and the others are reserved for customization00:44
gnarfacesabas3dgh: (also this) https://wiki.debian.org/Init00:46
gnarfaceprobably the rest of the important stuff is linked from one of those two pages i think00:47
gnarfaceyou can change the symlinks by hand or use update-rc.d or sysv-rc-conf00:49
gnarfacesymlinks start+stop status are obeyed but at least for start up order, the lsb headers in the scripts take precedence00:50
gnarfaceyou shouldn't have to mess with them unless you're doing something special00:50
joergloosely related rant: https://i.imgur.com/5elbP1J.png anybody dare a guess who's this eloquent and humble author of this comment there? (I'm just kidding, this style and attitude is better than a GPG signature)01:40
joerg>>I think it is time for gpm to go away [so it won't be supported any more eventually]<< doesn't leave any doubt who's the author01:57
* joerg thinks it's time for Lennart to go away01:58
Ponlibgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-dev is marked as conflicting with itself but I want to install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions to compile wine, does anyone know if there's any way?05:50
Pon(daedalus)05:52
PonSupposedly this package has been multiarch compatible for a while. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=86211906:01
gnarfacedunno about that one, you're on chimaera? and you have multi-arch enabled?06:24
gnarfaceand you're sure you don't have old debian packges in the way?06:25
PonI'm on daedalus.06:38
PonThis is a new install from about a month ago or so.06:39
PonI don't think I installed any old debian packages on it.06:39
gnarfacehmm, it could be a regression in daedalus06:55
gnarfaceit's been a while since i built wine but i did at one point have to compile the 32-bit parts in a separate chroot06:56
dbbsI was overclocking my ram13:33

Guest27How to add Devuan in menu.lst?20:21
gnarfaceupdate-grub20:27
gnarfaceGuest27: ^20:27
gnarfaceor maybe that's grub2 only, not sure20:27
gnarfacemenu.lst implies you're using grub1 doesn't it?20:28
gnarfacetry update-grub20:28
Guest8378121:42
Guest8378I once again got tired of restarting the computer 10 times in one hour to organize the loading of operating systems on the computer. This time I wanted to add devuan_chimaera_4.0.0_amd64_desktop-live.iso to grub-menu on HDD. To do this, I tested loading this iso on a flash drive (sdb1 fat32) where grub4dos-0.4.4 was (its grldr and menu.lst files).21:50
Guest8378But an error occurred: Error 62: The number of heads must be specified. The --heads=0 option tells map to choose a value (but maybe unsuitable) for you. Press any key...21:50
gandhii_I'm getting a "sudo: rc-update: command not found" when trying to run this command "rc-update add libvirtd boot" from this KVM installation tutorial: https://annwn.nl/devuan-libvirtd/23:08
gandhii_any ideas?23:09
gandhii_what package would rc-update come in if it isn't something that should already be there?23:09
gandhii_Or is it called something different now?23:10
rwpI have never heard of "rc-update" before. Must be in a supplemental package.  Also the packages themselves should create the correct user and groups.23:12
rwpSo that tutorial for Devuan seems less than accurate for Devuan. :-(23:12
rwpI also think the init script should have been installed automatically too.  So I question that part of the tutorial as well.23:13
rwpThe wisdom of the net tells me that rc-update and rc-service are part of the openrc suite.  So that tutorial would be for openrc users.23:14
gandhii_hmmm...  maybe I am creating problems for myself...23:15
gandhii_I just tried running it again and it is no longer having the connect to qemu error I was getting before23:16
rwpDid you install the default sysvinit?  Or openrc?  Or runit?23:16
gandhii_no idea..23:16
rwpI'll assume sysvinit as that is the default.  All good.23:16
gandhii_;]23:16
gandhii_lets forget I asked anything for the moment  ;]23:17
rwpThe init scripts for libvirt would be /etc/init.d/libvirtd and /etc/init.d/libvirt-guests which in Beowulf anyway are in libvirt-daemon-system package.23:17
rwpI need to update that system to Chimaera but haven't gotten around to it yet.23:17
rwpRe: My comment about users...  I misread that.  It's adding your user to the libvirt and libvirt-qemu groups in a non-idiomatic Debian/Devuan way.  But it is okay.23:26
rwpThe idiomatic Debian/Devuan way would be "adduser libvirt username" instead of the "usermod -a -G libvirt username" listed.  Same thing though.23:28
