NecrodiverSo i have a question regarding the fact SoystainD has entered Sudo. I noticed that i needed a new systemd-tmp-file or some package when i updated sudo last week, and I'm wondering if because of this, the devs have maybe considered taking doas from openbsd as a possible replacement?11:22
gnarfacedoas is already in the repos11:29
Necrodiveroh i know it is, i was just putting it out there for a possible default11:49
NeonLichtHello!  I'm having trouble with apt (I believe) caused by IPv6.  How can I disable IPv6 on Devuan to fix that, please?12:30
lts-NeonLicht: "sysctl net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1"12:32
NeonLichtOh, I thought sysctl was part of SystemD and wasn't available on Devuan.12:33
NeonLichtThank you so much, lts-, that fixed it.  Will it be permanent (after a reboot)?12:34
gnarfaceit will not, you have to add it to /etc/sysctl.conf or /etc/sysctl.d to make it survive reboots12:35
lts-It is "systemctl" which is a systemd tool, not "sysctl"12:37
NeonLichtCool, gnarface, thanks!!12:37
NeonLichtI see, lts-, I had no idea about sysctl.  Every time I've seen anything about it anywhere I've always ignored it believing it didn't apply to my boxes.  :-(12:39
NeonLichtI'm afraid I've made things much more complicated than they should've been sometimes looking for ways to do things ignoring sysctl.  LOL12:41
lts-No worries, most modern sysctl defaults are fortunately very good12:43
NeonLichtI see.  That might be the reason why I've got by without paying attention to it till now.  :-)12:45
Necrodiverhow is sysctl different from "service?" I usually use service (I use sysvinit)12:57
djphNecrodiver: sysctl is kernel stuff12:58
lts-Necrodiver: sounds like you are also thinking about "systemctl" which is used for enabling/starting/etc services in systemd systems. "sysctl" is a completely different tool, and has nothing to do with service daemons12:59
Necrodiverah okay, i never used sysctl so thats why im unfamiliar with it12:59
lts-I remember when systemd became a thing and one of the earliest criticisms was the name selection for "systemctl" and how it's going to get confused with "sysctl". Looks like we are still there13:01
NeonLichtSame here, Necrodiver, never used sysctl before now wither.13:02
NeonLichtYes, lts-, we are definitely still there.  At least Necrodiver and I seem to be!13:02
NecrodiverWell my only reason is that i never used sysctl ;)13:02
Necrodiverso i sorta have an excuse ;)13:03
NeonLichtSame excuse for me, then.  :-)13:03
Necrodiveri honestly didnt use systemctl much either since i moved from mint to refracta, but i kept forgetting service when i needed it lol13:03
NeonLichtI moved from Debian pre-SystemD to Devuan after 23 years using Debian.13:04
Necrodiverim newer to linux, i moved over around 3 years ago iirc13:05
djphonly been using linux for 15-20 years ... but ... yeah, Debian was a long-time distro13:06
Necrodiverbut ive been using computers nearly daily since windows 3.1 and ms-dos 5.X. The whole reason i moved to linux was because of cli. I missed the cli stuff13:06
NeonLichtI considered moving all boxes to OpenBSD and/or FreeBSD, but I like btrfs too much to let it go.  Haha13:07
Necrodivera friend of mine has been saying the same thing lol13:07
Necrodiverfor me its more like ditching gnome when they decide to go full wayland13:08
Necrodiverso im switching between xfce and TDE13:08
Necrodiversince im not fully used to the kde way of things yet13:08
NeonLichtI ditched Gnome when it started running poorly on 256MB RAM.  LOL13:08
Necrodiverlol13:08
NecrodiverTDE is cool btw13:09
NeonLichtI use Notion as my window manager.13:09
Necrodivernever heard of that, but i havent gone full minimalist yet lol13:09
Necrodiverthe one thing using TDE though is that for someone who is "newer" to linux, it does require a bit of work to learn and figure out how to do stuff because its SOOOOOOO bare bones if you install TDE-base13:10
NeonLichtWell, if you like the CLI and you like non overlaping windows (frames in Notion terminology) you'll fall in love with Notion.13:10
Necrodiveri try to run as much as i can through cli, i could easily use the gooey for a lot of things, but i force myself to be in terminal as much as I can13:11
Necrodiverand to improve my browsing, i recently installed vimium as well13:12
NeonLichtI rather use Uzbl and Surf for browsing.13:13
Necrodiverive heard of surf, isnt it some text based browser?13:15
NeonLichtNo, it isn't.  It's WebKit based, as is Uzbl.13:16
Necrodiveroh13:16
Necrodiveriirc thats what pale moon uses13:16
Necrodiveri forgot though13:16
NeonLichtThat's what Chromium, Chorme, Safari, etc, etc, etc, use.13:17
Necrodiveroh13:17
Necrodiverthen its not what pale moon uses, as its based on furfox13:18
NeonLichtBasically everything except for Micro$soft and Mozilla use WebKit, I think.13:18
Necrodiveri main with librewolf, with firefox esr for the spyware sites like youtube or yahoo or whatnot13:19
Necrodiverthen for testing sites i use icecat13:20
Necrodiverand for other stuff i use pale moon13:20
Necrodiverthe downside to pale moon is no vimium13:20
Necrodiverand some weird sites wont work right because google13:22
___usedalso add net.ipv6.conf.all.autoconf = 0 to syctl.conf ...13:57
___usedI see even with ipv6 off and rebooted one has in lsmod: nf_defrag_ipv613:58
___usedI hope that is not a hole.13:58
NeonLichtThank you, ___used14:01
