joerg>><chomwitt> rwp, i have 64 GB RAM so i would need 64GB swap for hibernation to succeed?<< you need 64GB of *free* swap for hibernation to succeed then. I accomplished that several years ago by doing a `swapon hibernatepartition` in a script that got invoked by... whatever daemon does that suspend/hibernate. And on resume I did a `swapoff`04:53
fluffywolfiirc, it can compress when hibernating, so you can often (but not always!) get away with less free swap, and of course you only need to save used memory, not free memory...04:57
joergneither buffers04:58
fluffywolfI upgraded ram on a box once without increasing swap, and would often need to exit firefox to get it to hibernate, because firefox always expands to use all available ram...04:59
joergback when I messed with that stuff, it simply didn't come back up from hibernate when the free swap was too small for storing all used RAM there. No idication whatsoever on going hibernate, just resume turned out to be a simple coldboot05:02
fluffywolfmine would abort hibernate and complain about insufficient free swap05:02
joergthat's probably a dozen patchlevels more advanced than mine05:03
AlexLikeRockjoerg, yes, you need 65 GB  of swap05:04
AlexLikeRock1 Gb more to avoid overbuffer05:04

fluffywolfI haven't been able to make hibernate or suspend work on this laptop.  it hits a kernel bug and crashes.  same bug that makes it crash whenever I unplug a usb device, which is most annoying.05:06
fluffywolfwell, certain usb devices05:07
brocashelmhibernate and suspend never work properly for me (using runit), but i learned to live without those as i either keep my systems on 24/7/365 or shut them down05:08
fluffywolfI need to save power.05:09
fluffywolfI probably should try a current kernel again, and post on lkml, but that always turns into a headache.05:11
fluffywolfusing 5.16.1 now.05:11
fluffywolfdo 6.* kernels work easily on chimaera?05:11
global_elitesdoes docker desktop work on Devuan?12:42
fsmithredglobal_elites, their website says that systemd init system is required, but the package itself does not appear to depend on systemd. So it might install and you might need to find another way to start it.13:19
fsmithredmaybe there's an old init script floating around on the web.13:20
