bingulo | Hi folks, i'm considering install devuan, i just need to answer some doubts | 02:03 |
---|---|---|
bingulo | whats init system devuan currently support? | 02:03 |
bingulo | if there is more than one, of course | 02:04 |
debdog | bingulo: https://linuxiac.b-cdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/devuan-installer-init-system.png | 02:10 |
debdog | for Chimaera at least. not certain about former ones. | 02:11 |
golinux | bingulo: https://www.devuan.org/os/ | 02:12 |
bingulo | looks good to me, my main interests is on runit and openrc | 02:18 |
bingulo | also, i remembered to see that on old days debian was able to use kFreeBSD instead of Linux, but because of the systemd avalanche it was lost. Is Devuan able to do it? | 02:21 |
Xenguy | bingulo, Hi | 02:22 |
Xenguy | Ask away | 02:22 |
bingulo | Xenguy: can you read my last question? | 02:42 |
fsmithred | no devuan kfreebsd | 02:43 |
fsmithred | or debian for that matter | 02:43 |
fsmithred | devuan is 99% debian. We fork about 100 packages | 02:43 |
fsmithred | good night | 02:45 |
debdog | dltbb | 02:49 |
FilipZ | Hi! Are you here now rrq ? Or anyone that could possibly know how to fix that wi-fi connection issue? | 03:47 |
rwp | Hmm... Today's upgrade of grub-pc-bin from 2.06-3~deb10u1 to 2.06-3~deb10u2 appears to have mistakenly added /boot/grub/i386-pc/* to amd64 systems. | 18:34 |
rwp | That's in Beowulf anyway. It won't hurt anything. But it stands out strongly as a likely mistake in the postinst script. | 18:34 |
rwp | Hmm... Maybe those files have been there after all and they just got "fluffed"? Maybe. Still seems odd. | 18:36 |
rwp | I guess I jumped to conclusions about those being newly added. It appears they have been there but were modified with the upgrade. Sorry for the noise. | 18:41 |
rkta | I have a lot of files in /boot/grub/i386*, and the grub update is still outstanding | 18:42 |
AnimaInvicta | I'm trying to install Devuan in qemu and all I get is that the kernel can't find a working initrd. AMD64, server and netinstall CD images. Has anyone else seen this? | 19:13 |
rwp | AnimaInvicta, I have built quite a few VMs using KVM QEMU with libvirt and the netinstall image without any problems. That's all I know. | 19:18 |
rwp | If you are building things from scratch I might suggest trying to boot the Refracta image. If it boots then netinstall should work. If Refracta fails to boot then you know it is something about the boot environment being broken. | 19:19 |
AnimaInvicta | Thanks for the suggestion rwp, I'll try that. | 19:20 |
AnimaInvicta | Hey, rwp. The RefractaInstaller image worked. Seems there's something off about the installer images. Thanks! | 19:53 |
clemens3 | recently installed devuan_beowulf_3.1.1_amd64_desktop.img client in qemu on a amd 2700x host and it worked like a charm | 20:25 |
clemens3 | oh, didn't read the last previous line.. sorry | 20:26 |
rwp | AnimaInvicta, I must admit that I did not expect that. However all data is a clue. I don't know what though. | 21:05 |
rrq | AnimaInvicta: what does "netinstall CD images" mean? | 22:05 |
FatPhil | presumably a minimal netinstall ISO, debian have historically called them "CD images" as they fit on a CD. | 22:27 |
rwp | I am not sure how the refracta iso could boot but the netinst iso not boot. But the deep down details matter. Anything is possible. | 22:58 |
AnimaInvicta | Sorry about the delay. Don't work on my setup: https://files.devuan.org/devuan_chimaera/installer-iso/devuan_chimaera_4.0.0_amd64_server.iso and https://files.devuan.org/devuan_chimaera/installer-iso/devuan_chimaera_4.0.0_amd64_netinstall.iso, while https://files.devuan.org/devuan_chimaera/minimal-live/devuan_chimaera_4.0.2_amd64_minimal-live.iso does work. | 23:24 |
rrq | ok. you press on with the working? or you want an installer iso to work? | 23:44 |
