systemdlete | Enough with systemd--I want MY system back! This morning, I went to wake up one of my boxes, which hosts daedalus and was running xscreensaver. It locked up. So I opened a console and discovered xscreensaver running, along with a child--xscreensaver-systemd! | 00:35 |
---|---|---|
systemdlete | Is there no end to this disease? | 00:35 |
systemdlete | I killed off both processes and I was able to reach my system again | 00:36 |
systemdlete | (desktop, i.e.) | 00:36 |
systemdlete | I never want to see anything with that crap running in my system. | 00:37 |
systemdlete | I realize there is probably next to nothing that anyone here can do, but this really ticks me off and I had to say something. | 00:38 |
rwp | That will be 5 cents for the therapy session. | 00:45 |
systemdlete | ok Lucy | 00:45 |
* rwp laughs | 00:46 | |
* systemdlete laughs too | 00:46 | |
* debdog lols – 5 ct for one therapy session.. someone omitted several zeros there | 00:54 | |
rwp | debdog, It's a reference to this: https://peanuts.fandom.com/wiki/Lucy%27s_psychiatry_booth | 01:16 |
debdog | rwp: I get it! Lucy that sneaky biadch | 01:28 |
debdog | Just watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)" right now. | 01:29 |
debdog | haha Charlie: "What's pantophobia?" Lucy: "The fear of everything." | 01:31 |
systemdlete | systemdephobia--the fear that the 5 eyes are using exploits in your system software to spy on you | 01:31 |
mason | See, I don't see systemd as spyware at all. It's just poorly written and designed badly. | 02:35 |
phogg | its design offends me deeply | 02:55 |
nemo | systemdlete: heh. I would hope that the fine folks here at devuan stubbed out that process (the xscreensaver one) | 02:57 |
al1r4d | hello all~ | 07:18 |
xinomilo | morning all, is amprolla stuck? | 07:39 |
xinomilo | havent seen ceres updates for a few days.. | 07:39 |
Besnik_b | djph, I first chose expert mode, without knowing the pros and cons, and then changed my mind when it asked for IP to configure my connection. Done automatically for ten or fifteen years, I forgot about this step and skipped this mode of installation. I would have skipped neints as well, if it asked for IP and such. | 08:57 |
Besnik_b | But the point here is that the installation script does not explain clearly the options. I did what I did purely in a “try and test” mode, not in any “informed choices” mode. | 08:59 |
djph | Besnik_b: huh? | 11:08 |
Besnik_b | djph, related to “<djph> brocashelm: netinst, and then you're set :P” | 11:09 |
djph | Besnik_b: that happens to be the least amount of software (IIRC, even devoid of a DE.) It's to be read as completely tongue-in-cheek to their earlier comments | 11:13 |
monsieur | hi | 11:30 |
systemdlete | nemo, nope. It is still part of xscreensaver. | 18:34 |
systemdlete | mason, phogg: I was not implying that it is spyware. I did refer to potential exploits in it... | 18:35 |
mason | Oh, alright, yeah. Re-reading what you wrote, I can see that now. | 18:36 |
al1r4d | Today i will use Chromium browser on my laptop (only).. sad | 23:33 |
al1r4d | Of course devuan | 23:33 |
nemo | using some chromium-only app? | 23:41 |
al1r4d | Usually, I open chart graphics, and Firefox has worse performance than Chrome. | 23:42 |
nemo | al1r4d: huh... seems to behave pretty well here, but on linux that can depend on a lot of things | 23:55 |
nemo | and ofc if you're using google's stuff, they often tend to build in anti-firefox behaviour.. | 23:55 |
nemo | al1r4d: what does about:support in firefox say you are using for Graphics? | 23:55 |
