Zip43Hello. I am having issues on a T530. I am unable to load my integrated webcam driver properly. Interestingly, while all A/v programs fail to recognize the webcam I was able to use the novelty program Hasciicam. This is no longer true. Permissions seem to be bonked on /dev/video and deleting /dev/video to allow it to repopulate does not work. I have00:11
Zip43attempted to install various webcam programs, and load kernel modules to no avail. I have confirmed the webcam is enabled in UEFI/BIOS.00:11
Zip43I am getting an error from v42l-utils saying "Cannot open device /dev/video0, exiting.". I was able to establish a loopback with this program, the only device it was able to display.00:13
Zip43There are presently no devices in /dev/ with the name video00:14
Zip43Running `mknod /dev/video0 c 81 0` produces error in the aformentioned program, saying it doesn't know what kind of device is /dev/video00:15
amesserFirst of all, does /sys/class/video4linux contain any entries?00:22
Zip43No, it is an empty directory00:25
amesserThat means the driver is not loaded00:25
Zip43Remind me the driver to load?00:25
amesserWhen the proper driver is loaded and device is found, entries should show up automatically in /sys/class/...00:27
Zip43There isn't a generic webcam driver?00:27
amesserAfterwards, udev will take care of creating /dev/video*00:27
amesserGeneric webcam? never heard of such a thing00:28
Zip43I have an integrated webcam. How do I find the proper driver?00:28
Zip43I'm not finding it in LSPCI00:30
amesserwhat does lsusb say?00:30
amesserthere should be an entry with your webcam00:31
Zip43Nope. I might have to check the BIOS again, but I checked last night and saw Webcam was enabled00:31
amesserhmm00:32
Zip43I also ntice that `thinkpad-acpi` is no longer in repo with this newest update00:33
Zip43https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id=usb:04f2-b2ea00:35
amesserdid you try to press [fn] + [f10] ?00:35
Zip43Yes00:35
Zip43But on my keyboard F10 is Skip Backwards. I have camera on F6, and F700:36
Zip43F7 opens the XFCE display resolution menu00:36
amesserI think you need to activate it in bios and then you also have to press the keyboard combination with [fn]00:36
amesseryou might need to enable the [fn] button in bios as well00:37
Zip43FN works, I can turn on the keyboard light. I'll doublecheck BIOS, as I checked last night and it was enabled.00:37
amesserok00:38
amesserwhen you type lsmod, does it contain uvcvideo ?00:38
Zip43No, only videodev              294912  000:39
Zip43mc                     61440  2 videodev,snd_usb_audio00:39
Zip43video                  65536  2 thinkpad_acpi,i91500:39
Zip43I will try to load that modual00:39
amesserok00:39
amesserbtw your're right ,should be [fn] + [f6] to toggle the camera.00:44
Zip43After enabling the uvcvideo module, and also recreating /dev/video, and also pressing FN+F6, I am still unable to get webcam functionality00:45
amesserHmm, no more ideas from m< side, sorry.00:46
Zip43And it still doesn't appear in the output of either lspci or lsusb. I will have to check bios again, but I have to use my cell phone for this upcoming call.I will return later for further troubleshooting00:46
amessersorry, i have to leave, late here...00:46
Zip43Thak you for the help, amesser00:47
Zip67Hello. A quick reboot confirmed that webcam is enabled in BIOS. However on startup I saw errors relating to USB00:52
Zip67Some output00:52
Zip67[  123.512321] usb 3-1.6: new full-speed USB device number 27 using ehci-pci00:52
Zip67[  123.928266] usb 3-1.6: device not accepting address 27, error -3200:52
Zip67[  123.928406] usb 3-1-port6: unable to enumerate USB device00:52
Zip67I do not know if this is due to a broken USB port, or if this is in-fact a problem with the webcam00:53
Zip67In fact, looking at the entierty of dmesg this error repeats itself and multiple power cycles occur00:55
rustyaxehmm01:10
rustyaxeDoes that go away in dmesg if you disable it in bios?01:10
rustyaxeif i disable it on my dell, it disappears entirely from the usb bus after a reboot.01:14
sfoxHello01:33
sfoxIs there still a problem with tianocore/edk2 payload on the thinkpad t430?01:33
sfoxI am migrating from linux to freebsd and I don't think my coreboot+grub2 can boot the freebsd installer so I think I have to replace it01:34
sfoxI looked at heads but that seems almost exclusively for booting linux kernels01:34
sfoxLast time i tried to use tianocore as a payload the hardware hung on boot with a black screen and needed to be recovered with a hardware flash01:35
sfoxSorry wrong chat01:45
Zip67rustyaxe sorry for the late reply, I'll have to check still03:44
rustyaxeZip67: just a thouht, it might at least narrow it down if its some other port failed, it wont go away.03:47
ralfHi18:45
