darwini still need to make ISO with newer kerne03:04
darwinkernel03:04
gnarfacefsmithred: darwin wants to build a installer image for chimaera with a newer kernel but i'm not sure i pointed him to the right thing04:17
rrqdarwin: that installer-iso builder starts by debootstrapping an iso build host, and then prepares the iso within that. The first debootstrap should be devuan's debootstrap, and there may be other host dependencies.. like having zsh and sudo; you can work it out05:20
darwini see.  I can't build it in Devuan as I've been unable to install it yet (too old kernel for my display/video/graphics card) that's the whole point.  I doubt I'll be able to work it out without complete instructions06:49
rrqdarwin: I had to pop out to deal with my car's flat tire... but maybe my comrehensive readme was sufficient for you ;)09:13
ted-iousWhen does the daedalus testing start and can anybody just install it and look for bugs?11:54
n4diryou already can, as far i can tell.11:56
n4dirwell, you can download and install daedalus, the bug part isn't too clear to me11:58
buZzdarwin: why not just grab the kernel from backports?12:49
buZzaka; install stable, add newer kernel through normal 'debian' route12:49
buZzwont be new-est- , will be new-er-12:50
buZz:)12:50
ted-iousThere doesn't seem to be any mirrors with signed shasum files for daedalus isos.12:57
ecxodhello friends, I changed with my desktop recently from debian to devuan, thanks for the good "howto" on devuan.org13:03
ecxodit whould be nice if someone can make _additional_ to this great "howto" something like a little more detailed background info, what it is going to change after the migration13:07
ecxodright now I am curious if I can also safly change my contabo server to devuan, as it is a vpn, not a real server13:08
buZzvps*13:09
buZzecxod: maybe make -another- vps with debian, and just try it? :)13:10
darwinbuZz, we've already been over all this in the last day: the installer doesn't work for my display/video/graphics card with an old kernel13:38
buZzdarwin: but you have intel ipgu, why doesnt that work?13:41
Guest53Hello :)14:11
Guest53I´m using devuan chimaera and trying to install mysql-workbench. Could someone give me a hand?  I tried changing apt sources to sid   but no luck14:11
djphI don't think that's been in the repos for ages ... IIRC mysql has a *deb for it on their site tho14:12
Guest53thanks, I saw .deb for ubuntu versions, but wasn´t sure if they would work and what version14:15
djphthought they had a debian one too, but it's been a while14:16
Guest53any other free gui for ER database design (using postgresql) would also fit.14:16
Guest53I tried to compile https://pgmodeler.io/ with no luck too14:16
buZzmysql-workbench wouldnt be using postgresql , now would it? :D14:22
buZzpgmodeler is in debian already14:23
buZzyou dont need to compile it by hand14:23
buZzhttps://packages.debian.org/stable/database/pgmodeler14:23
buZzdoesnt even depend on systemd :D14:23
Guest69thanks buZz for your reply before.15:39
Guest69thanks buZz, I´m trying this path because the version in debian repos has an bug solved in newest version.  https://github.com/pgmodeler/pgmodeler/issues/168915:39
Guest69I also tried to compile newest version but hit a wall with qt6.  https://www.pgmodeler.io/support/installation15:39
Guest69Do you know how to install the qt6 libraries needed to complie pqmodeler 1.x.x?15:39
Guest69Any help compiling pgmodeler would be appreciated. If I solve it I promise to document it and share it :)15:39
hacksenwerkThe package xloadimage contains the command xsetbg and I can use both as command to set a background image, but with xloadimage it takes longer. Why?15:52
hacksenwerkAlso the xloadimage command gives output like: filename.png is 1297x993 PNG image, color type RGB, 8 bit - Merging...done and Building XImage...done15:53
hacksenwerkThe man only says: "Xsetbg is equivalent to xloadimage -onroot -quiet" ok yes xsetbg is not verbose, but that does not explain the longer processing time.15:56
hacksenwerksetting a background image with xloadimage takes about 1 or 2 seconds longer, with same options.15:56
FatPhilstrace -T ?16:00
FatPhilor -tt ?16:01
hacksenwerkFatPhil: I don't know how to use this.16:07
hacksenwerkstrace -T xsetbg gives me cryptic stuff16:07
hacksenwerkAnyway it is not an issue, I was just curious16:08
FatPhilthat's all the syscalls the program makes, sometimes you can see what it's stalling on17:03
FatPhilmaybe it's loading some shitty library, maybe it's doing terrible memory management, who knows17:04
hacksenwerkFatPhil: Ok. But it is the same program only different commands, that's why I wonder. :)17:12
hacksenwerkMaybe someone can reproduce it.17:12
sector01Good morning, all. I hope everyone is having a good day. I have a quick question about installing cockpit. Im currently running daedalus, but I cant seem to get cockpit to install. Has anyone tried to install it?19:20
golinuxsector01: cockpit is a banned package in Devuan https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/bannedpackages.txt19:25
sector01Ah!19:25
sector01welp, that explains it. Thanks, lol.19:26
golinuxSadly the list keeps getting longer  . . .19:27
golinuxCan you say lock-in?19:29
sector01I still like devuan. Just didnt realized just how much stuff realize on systemd. Im looking through the banned list now. Goodness gracious.19:31
n4dirXorg log files give a lot of messages from systemd-logind. What is the explanation?19:37
plasma41n4dir: Do you have elogind installed?20:07
n4dirpretty sure yes, let me check20:07
n4diryup20:07
FatPhilshould I be worried by the term "banned"?20:14
FatPhilif it's just incompatibility, then that's their incompatibility, it's not us "banning" them.20:15
golinuxGood point!20:19
fsmithredI think banned means blocked by amprolla from being merged.20:47
fsmithredso they don't show up in our repo20:47
golinuxThat doesn21:00
golinux't invalidate the point that FatPhil makes.21:00
rwpNaming things is hard.21:00
golinuxI would rather put the onus on Debian for the incompatibility than us looking like we are excluding something21:02
golinuxIf Debian had required multi-init capability, cockpit would be available21:03
brocashelmarch is even worse about it; they sneak systemd in literally everything, in some form22:03
brocashelmso artix has to exclusively build all of the packages that they have on their official repos22:03
brocashelmwhereas devuan has the upper hand of only taking about 200-300 packages and merging with the rest that can work without systemd22:04
