nemohttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29855045  HN argues systemd00:09
nemodidn't realise Debian went straight from sysv to systemd.00:11
golinuxMaybe take to #devuan-offtopic as this is not a support question . . .00:12
golinuxActually, already posted there00:13
hiyagolinux: cannot do netinstall with gnome?00:36
hiyawhy is everyone hating Gnome :(00:36
gnarfacehiya: it's the systemd tie-in.  it'd have been included if it had been economically feasible.  it's their design choices, not our political ones.  people have had good experiences reportedly converting to mate, fyi00:42
hiyahmm00:42
hiyabut I <3 gnome, then I believe devuan isn't for me00:43
gnarfacehiya: well it's really not necessary to choose any WM at install time, you can pick it afterwards just fine, from what i'm told.00:43
hiyahmm00:44
hiyaCan devuan be used with https://xanmod.org/00:44
hiya?00:45
hiyaFor latest kernel00:45
golinuxhiya: Only post-install00:49
msiismIs there any way someone would end up with aptitude being installed by default on Devuan?00:49
hiyagolinux: ok thanks00:53
fsmithredmsiism, yes, if they chose a desktop environment from the installer, they would get aptitude00:55
msiismI see. Interesting.00:55
msiismfsmithred: Do you also happen to know if `aptitude full-upgrade` is practically equivalent of `apt-get dist-upgrade`?00:57
fsmithredfor one of the upgrades, aptitude was the recommended tool. I forget if that was lenny to squeeze or maybe before or after that.00:57
fsmithredyes, they are usually exactly the same00:57
msiismOkay, great.00:57
msiismI'm trying to brush up TDE installation instructions.00:57
fsmithredwhen there are conflicts, aptitude will usually give you a few different suggestions.00:57
fsmithredok, I thought TDE was pretty easy to install00:58
fsmithredbut I haven't done it in a long time00:58
fsmithredmore than 2 or 3 years00:58
fsmithredand anyhow, I would just use exegnu if I wanted tde00:59
msiismYeah, they mix apt-get an aptitude in the official instructions, which is very odd.01:00
fsmithredyeah, it's better to stick with one in any instructions.01:01
fsmithredIn reality, I find myself needing both of them pretty often.01:01
msiismIs ExeGNU still maintained, by the way?01:01
fsmithredand anyway, 'aptitude -s *whatever*' gives you better output than anything else.01:02
fsmithredyeah, I think so. dzz shows up every now and then. Not sure how old the last isos are.01:02
msiismOh, apparntly still maintained. Just Sourceforge's UI doesn't make that exactly clear.01:02
msiismGood to know.01:03
fsmithredlooks like beowulf isos last March.01:03
msiismThere's actually a Chimaera ISO from 2021-12-28.01:04
msiismIt's in the green box.01:04
fsmithredlooks like he has a package repo now.01:04
fsmithredok, good. Also bluez-alsa packages from same date.01:05
msiismI've recently installed Chmaera with TDE on an old laptop. Works pretty well.01:22
msiismI mean, it's a bit slow. But then, this thing runs on 800M memory…01:23
msiismOne minor quibble I saw is that the fully-bloated version has a Debian-themed login manager.01:23
msiismWell, it's only the background image, to be fair.01:24
Hunter[m]<msiism> "I've recently installed Chmaera..." <- Thats funny because Ive done the same but on an old desktop lol01:57
gnarfaceok so there's a wifi device that works fine if there's constant traffic, but disconnects after about 7-10s of inactivity, and the log even says the reason is a locally generated disconnect due to inactivity, but iwconfig says power management is not enabled for the device07:07
gnarfacenetwork-manager isn't installed07:07
gnarfaceanyone seen this?07:07
malade_mentalsystemd-resolved : what is this awful boatware included in stock debian 11 O_O18:27
malade_mentalI'm running devuan VMs on debian host (shipped by the server provider...)18:28
raindodgerThought I'd mention that the hidden service for updating apt's cache appears to be down. Running "apt update" returns an error message telling me "Host unreachable"20:48
raindodgerHowever, I can connect to other hidden services via Tor browser with no problems20:48
raindodgerSo my ISP isn't blocking connections to Tor20:49
raindodgerTried restarting the Tor service but that didn't change anything20:49
onefangAlas I have no visibility into that yet.20:49
raindodgerHmm. Hopefully it can be fixed soon. I like updating over Tor20:50
raindodgerAnyway, I gotta go to work. I'll catch you guys later20:51
ibanjajust upgraded to chimaera... Diodon, the new clipit replacement, isn't saving clips.  Anyone else having this problem?21:09
plasma41I tried adding 'deb-src http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-security main' to my sources.list, but I get a 404 when running 'apt-get update'.23:56
plasma41ping rrq ^23:56
* rrq ping LeePen ^^ :)23:58
Tenkawanon-released branches don't have security branches yet do they?23:59
